The Influence of Southern Women in the Entertainment Industry

When people think of the South, the thing that comes to mind is cows, pigs, chickens, green pastures, and slurred accents. Many assumptions are made that southerners have no sense of style or class. My perspective about this isn't biased because I’m from New Orleans. It is a known fact that most Southern women have style and flavorful taste. There are many well -known beauties that continue to pave the way for the Southern fashionistas.

Representing Dallas, TX, Erykah Badu , Queen of Neo-Soul , emerged on the scene with her natural hairstyles and amazing voice plus beauty. Ms. Badu made it ok to wear your head wrapped in public with her large and colorful head
wraps (which came in handy on bad hair days, lol). The Bohemian look became popular worldwide thanks to Baduizm and is still a top style to rock. (Photo Courtesy of eyongdenis.com)

After her breakthrough role in “Training Day”, this Cuban doll born in Miami, Florida  jumped directly to the A-list. Since her rise to fame, Eva Mendes has been a spokes model for REVLON, Calvin Klein, Cartier Jewelry, and Pantene just to name a few. Eva created a home décor line “Vida” that is sold only at Macy’s. Her fashion style is sassy, classy, and spicy! (Photo Courtesy of accessories.about.com)

Beyonce Knowles-Carter puts Houston,TX on the map. Sexy, sophisticated, blazing, and innovative describes her signature style which is always copied. This young woman has already influenced music and fashion so she had to cross over to the sports industry with her recent Performance at the 2013 Super Bowl in New Orleans. Mrs. Carter is a spokes model for L’Oreal and has been since she was 18. Tommy Hilfiger has launched two perfumes with Beyonce True Star and True Star Gold. She also has the House of Dereon which she runs alongside her mother Tina Knowles. (Photo Courtesy of multiculturalbeauty.about.com)

So there it is and the proof is in this blog post! Sothern women have a great influence in the fashion and music industry. Kela B.
